Swimming

We have had lots of fun splashing, floating and diving at Wharenui Pool.

Look at us float, kick, stroke and paddle.

We also enjoyed a fun session of water polo games.

Strawberries and Ice Cream

We have been watching our strawberries growing in our strawberry box.

On Monday we saw that we had 4 juicy, red strawberries.

Today we ate them with creamy, crunchy hokey pokey ice cream.

It was delicious and it was a real treat!

I wonder who got to eat the strawberries that we grew? They were all chopped up and mixed together with strawberries from a supermarket.

 "Mmmm, scrumptious!" said Adam

Some of us stirred up our ice cream to melt it and make it smooth and runny!

Athletics Day

Red Hat thinking - our feelings

Yay! We had such a great time today
running, jumping and throwing
at our Athletics Day.

Here are some of our reflections...

Yellow Hat thinking - all the good things!

Black Hat thinking - the
'not-so-good' things

We are all such great athletes!
The teachers thought we were wonderful because we made excellent Mahi Pai choices!

Helping Others

We have been talking a lot about all the people who
help us and what are some things that we can do to
help others.

Miss Burgess found a food bank bag
and we decided that it would be a good idea to use it.
We talked about what 'donating' means and read through the list
of items that would be helpful to donate.
We have collected all this food!
We think it feels really good to GIVE.
We feel proud of ourselves for helping others.

Planet Projects

This is us working really hard to find information about one of the planets we have chosen.

MERCURY   VENUS   EARTH   MARS   JUPITER   SATURN   URANUS   NEPTUNE   PLUTO
We are looking in books and using the index pages to search for facts.
Our projects are nearly finished and we are making paper planets to go with them.

Come and have a read!

Spring Writing

This week we have finished our Spring writing.

We had to use our senses to write about this season.
Now they are on display and they look bright and colourful with our dancing daffodils we made.

Taking Turns Explore Galore

We had more space fun in Room 10 today!
We made space boots and pretended we were walking on the moon with no gravity.

We also made paper plate suns, playdough aliens and decorated moon rocks.
We were learning to TAKE TURNS so we had to remember to be patient, co operate and use our manners.

Handwriting

This week we have been learning to make great 'j' shapes.

We know they have a straight back with a neat hook shape at the end.

We are getting really good at making sure they face the right way and don't go backwards!

We can use finger spacing and sit our letters on the lines.

We know our important S's

SHAPE
SPACING

Fun with Rockets at Explore Galore

Today our WALT was to KEEP TRYING.
We talked about what this might look like and the words we might hear. Look at us persevering with some tricky rocket and space activities. We don't give up!

Calendar Art

We have been working really hard this week to finish our calendar art.

Our artwork is pictures of ladybirds because they are one of the first signs of Spring.

We sponged on our ladybird shapes, used our fingers to make the spots (this was the fun part!) and dyed the background.

We read some stories about ladybirds too. We found out that they have 6 legs, 2 eyes and 3 parts to their body -head, thorax and abdomen.

We also know why they are brightly coloured....do you?

Friendly Frogs

This week our sound focus is the 'fr' sound. We made friendly frogs to help us remember this sound and we now we know lots of other 'fr' words...
freezing   fridge   fragile    frost   fry   free
France   Frederick

Dr Seuss Reading Time

This week is Book Week.
In Room 10 we are reading lots and lots of Dr Seuss books and working on a reading contract.
Look at us read!

Newsboard Monday 22nd August

Look at all the words we have thought of that start with this sound.

Making Predictions about Shadows

We had to make predictions about what was going to make a shadow. We used foil, cardboard, paper, clear plastic lid, plastic bag and wax paper. Next we tested our predictions.
We discovered...
* not all things make shadows (transparent objects don't make shadows because the light can get through them easily)
* some shadows are darker than others (translucent things can make lighter shadows because some light can get through them)
* if something is opaque it does not let light shine through it

We had a great morning working
co operatively, sharing the torches and thinking like scientists!

Explore Galore Shadows Session 1

Click here to explore Shadow Games and Activities

Shadows

We made our shadows as big, tall, wide and small as we could.

Snow is...

After all our snow, we wrote some really COOL stories about what snow is by comparing it to other things. We published them carefully and added some sponge print snowmen and glittering dangly snowflakes.

Amazing Artists

We created our own Happy Feet penguins.
